{"id":5022,"date":"2025-06-21T09:18:39","date_gmt":"2025-06-21T09:18:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themestate.com\/demo\/sportspress\/rockline\/19-ways-to-enjoy-the-soccer-match"},"modified":"2025-12-30T19:54:20","modified_gmt":"2025-12-30T19:54:20","slug":"19-ways-to-enjoy-the-soccer-match","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/themestate.com\/demo\/sportspress\/rockline\/19-ways-to-enjoy-the-soccer-match\/","title":{"rendered":"19 Ways to Enjoy the Soccer Match"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Noting it\u2019s an \u201cunusual\u201d strategy, Philadelphia Union sporting director Ernst Tanner explained the decision to trade away all of the club\u2019s picks at the <strong>2019 MLS SuperDraft<\/strong> to FC Cincinnati for up to $200,000 in General Allocation Money on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Union owned the No. 13 overall pick, but when Tanner evaluated the talent pool at the MLS Combine, he saw that only eight of the players were below the age of 22, with six in Generation adidas. Tanner believes those players will be picked before the Union would make it to the podium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"http:\/\/themestate.com\/demo\/sportspress\/rockline\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/01\/besiktas-2908105_1920-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5366\" srcset=\"https:\/\/themestate.com\/demo\/sportspress\/rockline\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/01\/besiktas-2908105_1920-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/themestate.com\/demo\/sportspress\/rockline\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/01\/besiktas-2908105_1920-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/themestate.com\/demo\/sportspress\/rockline\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/01\/besiktas-2908105_1920-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/themestate.com\/demo\/sportspress\/rockline\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/01\/besiktas-2908105_1920-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/themestate.com\/demo\/sportspress\/rockline\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/01\/besiktas-2908105_1920-128x85.jpg 128w, https:\/\/themestate.com\/demo\/sportspress\/rockline\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/01\/besiktas-2908105_1920-32x21.jpg 32w, https:\/\/themestate.com\/demo\/sportspress\/rockline\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/01\/besiktas-2908105_1920.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a little bit unusual because probably nobody has done it before,\u201d Tanner said in a conference call with reporters Wednesday night. \u201cBut I\u2019m probably here to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tanner said the Union \u201cwould not have benefitted very well from a 13th pick,\u201d but the club\u2019s flexibility increased with the GAM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\nFC Cincinnati\n\n<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>FC Cincinnati, he noted, are in a different situation as an expansion team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey are an expansion team who need to fill up their roster spots and we are in a stable situation where we have a good setup and a good infrastructure, and a second team and an academy behind us, which is extraordinarily good,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tanner said part of the overall strategy with Bethlehem Steel is \u201cto make them much younger and more prospects in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">And with one of the top academies in MLS, Tanner believes there\u2019s better prospects within the club than in college.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe level of MLS has increased a lot and I think the level in the university has been more or less the same. There is quite a big gap,\u201d Tanner said. \u201cOut of what I\u2019ve seen last year when I\u2019d see the draft picks, there are a lot of players who are quite OK for the USL level. But it doesn\u2019t necessarily make us better on the MLS level.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Summer is a great time to enjoy City of WP and some of its best events and amenities.
